We're Hiring: Soft Goods Designer

About Us

Move2Play is a small, fast-moving toy and baby gear company. Ten years in, we've built a reputation for interactive toys that get kids moving. Now we're growing Little Acorn, our premium baby gear brand, from 6 products to 20+.

The Role

You'll be the design lead for our fabric-centric product line: diaper backpacks, diaper caddies, floor seats, baby play gyms, padded play mats, plush loveys, and new categories we haven't dreamed up yet. Your job is to make products that parents notice in a sea of sameness... beautiful, giftable, photograph-well-in-a-nursery products that also survive real life with a baby.

This is a hands-on role. You'll take products from first sketch through fabric selection, pattern development, factory sampling, and production. You'll work directly with our manufacturing partners in China and India.

What You'll Do

  • Design soft goods from concept to production: bags, caddies, seats, gyms, mats, plush, and textile prints
  • Develop colorways, print patterns, and material palettes that define a cohesive, premium brand aesthetic
  • Create detailed tech packs: technical sketches, patterns, dimensions, materials, trims, and construction callouts factories can actually build from
  • Evaluate and select fabrics and fills that balance look, feel, durability, cost, and safety
  • Review factory samples critically (fit, stitch quality, print accuracy, hand feel) and drive revisions until it's right
  • Ensure designs meet US safety standards for baby and toddler products (CPSIA, ASTM, flammability, small parts)
  • Research the market and trends: what's winning on Amazon, what's trending in nurseries, where the gaps are
  • Present concepts to the founding team and iterate fast

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years designing soft goods — baby gear, plush, bags, home textiles, or similar
  • A portfolio that shows genuine aesthetic sensibility. We care more about your eye than your resume
  • Strong command of construction: sewing techniques, pattern-making, seam types, trims, closures
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; able to produce clean, complete tech packs
  • Experience working with overseas factories: you know how to communicate through a tech pack and a sample comment sheet
  • Comfortable making physical prototypes or mockups to test ideas
  • Self-directed and detail-obsessed; you'll have a lot of autonomy and we'll expect you to run with it

Nice to Have

  • Experience specifically in baby/toddler products and their safety requirements
  • Knowledge of sustainable and recycled materials (several of our products use recycled fabrics)
  • Familiarity with digital textile printing
  • Degree in Textile Design, Industrial Design, Fashion Design, Toy Design, or related (or an equivalent track record)
